The Arts and Media College of Kunming University of Science and Technology was founded in September 2009, which is built in the original College of literature Department of art, Department of Cultural Communication, and also on the basis of Department of Industrial Design that located in School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. College of the existing environmental art design, visual communication design, industrial design, cultural communication, fine arts, five major teaching departments and a professional experiment and demonstration center. College of theexisting 97 staffs, including 8 professors,15 associate professors, Dr.11 people(of which two Dr Arts), and then PhD candidate in 9 peoples. Among them, some of the artists are renowned both at home and abroad, some are rigorous scholars and professors, who are in average age of about 36 years old. The master's degree or above in teachers account for 70% of the total number of staff, and there are 48 master graduate tutors, so the team is full of creativity and vitality. In recent years, teachers in the national core journals published more than 600 papers, monographs and editors 71, published works of 182, commitment to the international community social science fund 19, provincial and ministerial level project 89, school-enterprise cooperation project 23, school level 15 items, were awarded the design patent 107. To guide students to obtain international art design competition award 18, national art design competition, film and television works contest award more than 170, provincial and ministerial level art design competition, film and television works contest award nearly 800.

Currently there are 1503 students at college, including 1128 undergraduates,375 graduate students. On undergraduate education, the college has a group of relatively long history of the development of professional disciplines, such as industrial design, the earliest established in 1986. And it has accumulated a number of intensive professional disciplines, such as the Department of Art which was established in 1999, the Department of Journalism that predecessor of Culture and Communication Department was established in 1998. Also recent years, it has a number of rapid development in emerging disciplines, such as painting, broadcasting host. After years of development, college of the existing 10 undergraduate professional 12 professional direction, respectively is environmental art design (under the interior design, landscape art design 2 directions), visual communication design, digital media art, industrial design, product design, editorial and publishing subject, advertising. communication studies, art(set of traditional Chinese painting, oil painting two direction), broadcast host art, in which industrial design is a key construction in Yunnan Province. On the postgraduate education, in 2001 it received a master's degree in design art granted, is the first in Yunnan Province by the master's degree in design unit; In 2004 with a master's enrollments in industrial design engineering; In2007 with a master's enrollments in Chinese minority nationality art; In 2009 with a master's enrollments in arts(MFA). When subjects adjustment in 2011, design and art theory got two first-level master's degree.
